In the Oporto Map dated from 1834, elaborated by Coronel Moreira, it was referenced as Rua do Prado (Prairie Street), the street leading to Campanhã.
After the battle between liberals and supporters of the absolute power of the king, which took place on September 29th, 1832, in the surrounding area, it was called Rua de 29 de Setembro (29th of September Street) and it is identified with that name In the City Map elaborated by Costa Lima in 1839.
Later, by decision of the city governor, it was renamed as Rua do Heroísmo (Heroism Street), in honour of the brave actions that took place in that battle.
